Model Route: Quick One-Day Tour of Aso (~150 km)
The journey begins in Beppu City along the scenic “Yamanami Highway” and concludes on the popular “Green Road Minami Aso” (commonly known as Kenny Road) in South Aso. Covering approximately 150 kilometers, this touring route can be comfortably enjoyed over half a day to a full day at a relaxed pace.
Along the way, you’ll ride through some of Kyushu’s most iconic and beloved motorcycle roads:

Since it’s a small road branching off from the main path, be careful not to miss it.
Sagiridai Observatory
Located at an elevation of about 680 meters, this observatory offers sweeping views of the Yufuin townscape and Mount Yufu. On clear days, you can see for miles, and if you’re lucky, you may catch the area wrapped in a mystical morning fog. With vending machines available, it’s also a convenient rest stop.
The downhill section from Sagiridai is one of the highlights of the Yamanami Highway. If you’re using an action camera, be sure to have it ready to capture the ride. The views vary greatly between the ascent and descent, so riding both directions is highly recommended to fully enjoy the scenery.
Chojabaru
