Highlights
- Aso Shrine is the head shrine of over 500 Aso Shrines across Japan and boasts a remarkable history of more than 2,500 years.
- In the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, the shrine suffered extensive damage, including the collapse of its grand gate, which is considered one of Japan’s “Three Great Shrine Gates” (San-dai Rōmon). Thankfully, the gate has now been fully restored, regaining its majestic presence.
- Located near popular spots like Daikanbo and Mount Aso’s crater, Aso Shrine is a perfect detour during your motorcycle touring. A free parking area for motorcycles makes it especially convenient for riders.
