With direct access to Kyushu while enjoying a pleasant journey on a modern ship, it’s truly an ideal choice to kick off your touring adventure!

Direct Access from Kanto to Kyushu via the Yokosuka-Shinmoji Route

Opened in 2021, this ferry route offers a groundbreaking access point for riders heading to Kyushu. Departing from Yokosuka at 11:45 PM and arriving at Shinmoji the next night at 9:00 PM (approximately 21 hours), you can relax onboard during the journey. By the time you arrive, you’ll be refreshed and ready to start your Kyushu touring experience. This direct access makes starting your journey from Kanto to Kyushu smoother than ever!

Access is convenient from the Yamanami Highway and other touring routes, with stunning viewpoints scattered along the way. Particularly, the grasslands of Aso showcase expansive landscapes, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful nature of each season.

Aso Mountain continues to be an active volcano, leaving a strong impression on its visitors. Especially, the crater of Nakadake, one of the Aso Five Mountains, can be viewed up close, allowing you to feel the power of the volcano up close. Witnessing the billowing smoke, smelling the hot sulfur, and feeling the ground tremble are valuable experiences that showcase the strength of nature.

Imakin Shokudo | Exquisite Akaushi Don Lunch

One of the joys of touring in Kyushu is savoring the local delicious cuisine. Among these, a standout recommendation is the Akagyu don at “Imakin” located in Kumamoto Prefecture. Akaushi is a specialty Wagyu from Kumamoto, known for its tender texture and rich flavor, making it beloved by many.

Due to its popularity, there is often a line every day, but if you’re alone, you may be seated at the counter quickly.

Akaushi is characterized by its red meat, which is low in fat and healthy, allowing you to truly appreciate the taste of the meat. As a result, Akagyu don delivers a deep umami flavor that spreads in your mouth, providing satisfaction with each bite. Kenny Road is a popular touring spot in Kumamoto Prefecture where you can enjoy riding while taking in the beautiful landscapes of the Aso area. This road offers a comfortable riding course surrounded by Aso’s majestic nature, making it an attractive route, especially for motorcycle enthusiasts.

The Road Loved by a World Champion

Kenny Road is named after the legendary American racing rider Kenny Roberts, who dominated the world racing scene in the 1970s and 80s under the nickname “King Kenny,” achieving a triple championship in the Road Racing World Championship. He later produced champions as a team manager and is truly a world champion. His wife is Japanese and has family in Kumamoto, which is why he loves this region deeply. Since 2009, he has frequently visited Aso privately and started touring this road.

The favorite stretch of road is a winding course that extends 17 kilometers on the eastern side of a 20-kilometer segment of the “Green Road Minami Aso.” This road was officially named “Kenny Road” in 2015 with the permission of Minami Aso Village and Nishihara Village. It is an ideal riding course that allows you to enjoy the expansive, breathtaking views of the Aso Five Mountains and the picturesque landscapes of the caldera.

This further illuminates the reasons why this place is considered a power spot. Shiroyama was also the final stronghold of Saigo Takamori during the Satsuma Rebellion, allowing visitors to feel the breath of history. The path leading to the observatory is lined with rich nature, and walking through the tranquil forest to reach the observatory provides a refreshing experience.

Ibusuki Skyline | A Touring Road to Enjoy Scenic Views and Winding Roads

The “Ibusuki Skyline,” located in the southern part of Kagoshima Prefecture, is a popular route for motorcycle touring, offering breathtaking views and exhilarating winding roads. This skyline begins about 30 km south of Kagoshima City and traverses the Satsuma Peninsula, continuing to Ibusuki City, making it a refreshing drive through beautiful natural scenery.

The Ibusuki Skyline features gentle ups and downs with a series of smooth curves, providing riders with the joy of a delightful ride. The road surface is in excellent condition, and the continuous easy bends allow for a comfortable and smooth touring experience. Especially on weekdays, the less crowded roads let local riders fully enjoy the tranquility of the mountains and the fresh air of nature.

Sata Cape | The Southernmost Point of the Japanese Mainland that Riders Aim For

Located in Minami-Osumi Town, Kagoshima Prefecture, “Sata Cape” is a coveted destination for many riders as it marks the southernmost point of the Japanese mainland. Visiting this spot symbolizes the achievement of reaching the southernmost point, providing a unique emotional experience as a touring destination. Surrounded by mountains and beautiful seas, riders frequently cherish the sense of accomplishment they feel here.

Additionally, there are tunnels and well-maintained walking paths near the cape, allowing visitors to enjoy a stroll through rustling flowers and forests, providing a refreshing experience for both body and mind.

“Cape Toi” and “Phoenix Road,” located in the southern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, are beloved touring courses where riders can enjoy the landscape of the tropics and the great outdoors. Cape Toi is known as a habitat for wild horses, allowing visitors to feel the breath of nature and wildlife amidst the grandeur of the scenery. The “Phoenix Road,” extending south from Miyazaki City, also offers an incredible driving experience alongside the sea and palm trees.

There are several lookout points along the road where you can stop to enjoy stunning views of the Nichinan coastline and the Pacific Ocean, making it easy to savor the beautiful scenery during your tour.

Cape Toi | A Nature Paradise Where Wild Horses Roam

Cape Toi is located at the southernmost tip of the Nichinan coastline, offering expansive views of the Pacific Ocean. This cape is famous for the wild horses known as “Misaki-uma,” which have been living here for about 300 years. These horses are a valuable natural monument in Japan, and their carefree existence in the vast grasslands soothes the hearts of visitors. Takachiho Gorge is located in the sacred area of Takachiho, known in Japanese mythology as the place where deities descended to Earth. This legendary gorge draws both pilgrims and tourists seeking its energy. A highlight is the stunning Manai Waterfall, where water cascades 17 meters into a crystal-clear blue river. The contrast with the lush greenery around creates a captivating and purifying landscape. The road leading down to Takachiho Gorge is steep and winding, so motorcyclists should be cautious. The route includes sharp inclines, and wet conditions can make the path slippery, increasing the risk of accidents. Drive slowly and carefully, especially on narrow sections and sharp curves. While scenic views appear along the way, it’s essential to stay focused on the road.

Scenic Beauty of Saga | Kagamiyama Observatory and Niji no Matsubara

On clear days, the brilliant blue sky and sea combine to create an iconic Karatsu scene, attracting many tourists and riders alike.

One of the observatory’s main draws is the view of Niji no Matsubara and Karatsu Bay. Niji no Matsubara, one of Japan’s three great pine groves, stretches for about 5 kilometers along the coastline. The lush greenery of the pines and the blue sea beyond make for a stunning contrast. At sunset, the sky glows orange, creating a dreamy landscape reflected on the water.

The winding road up to Kagamiyama offers an enjoyable ride for motorcyclists. Upon reaching the summit, the observatory opens up to a breathtaking view, allowing you to feel at peace. There are rest areas and benches around the observatory where you can relax and take in the view.

Spanning 5 kilometers along Karatsu’s coast, Niji no Matsubara is one of Japan’s three great pine forests. Located in Minamishimabara, Nagasaki, the Hara Castle Ruins are a significant historical site, preserving the memory of Christian persecution and the Shimabara-Amakusa Rebellion.
