Hidden Touring Spot in Kanagawa: A Complete Guide to Ōno Mountain by Motorcycle

Hello! Today, I’m excited to introduce a hidden gem in Kanagawa Prefecture: Ōno Mountain. This serene spot offers breathtaking views and is perfect for solo touring enthusiasts looking to refresh and immerse themselves in nature on two wheels.

What Makes Ōno Mountain Touring So Special?

Located in Yamakita Town, Kanagawa Prefecture, Ōno Mountain stands at an elevation of 723 meters. Despite its moderate height, the views from the summit are nothing short of spectacular. While the mountain is popular among hikers, it also features a parking lot near the summit, making it accessible by vehicle—and an under-the-radar destination for motorcycle touring. On clear days, you can enjoy sweeping views of Mount Fuji. Imagine cruising through tranquil mountain roads while soaking in the serene landscape—an experience not to be missed.

Ōno Mountain was even featured in episode 3 of the TV Tokyo drama Gezan Meshi, further highlighting its allure.

Ride to the Summit: A Paradise for Forest Road Lovers

One of the standout features of Ōno Mountain is the ability to approach the summit by motorbike. Once you enter the paved forest road, you’ll feel closer to nature, with an adventurous vibe that’s sure to thrill riders. While the road is narrow and not perfectly maintained, it’s an ideal challenge for fans of forest road touring.

Keep an eye out for wildlife like deer, which can occasionally cross your path. Always ride cautiously and at a controlled speed, especially on the winding mountain roads.

For cars, the narrow lanes can make passing difficult, so extra care is advised. Motorcyclists, too, should approach with safety in mind—slow down and enjoy the scenic surroundings at your own pace.

A sign indicating “No Vehicle Entry” marks the starting point. It’s a 5-minute walk to the summit from here.
Near the summit, there’s a spacious parking lot available.
Even with the narrow road, riding the Grasstracker was a fun experience.

I treated my trusty Grasstracker to a reward (fuel additive) after its hard climb (lol). The odometer is about to hit 50,000 km, but it’s still going strong!
