Yamagoe Udon is often credited as the originator of “Kamatama Udon,” a local delicacy featuring freshly boiled noodles topped with a raw egg and savory dashi soy sauce. Known for its chewy texture and rich flavor, it attracts udon lovers from all over Japan. - Perfect Stop for Motorcycle Tours
The restaurant offers ample parking, including space for motorcycles. It’s an ideal rest stop for anyone touring Shikoku by bike. - Affordable & Quick – Ideal for Udon-Hopping Adventures
With prices as low as a few hundred yen, and a fast turnover, Yamagoe Udon is perfect for solo travelers who want to sample multiple famous udon spots in a single trip.
Quick Impression
As someone who usually prefers soba over udon, I was blown away by the quality here. Although I accidentally poured warm kake dashi (broth) instead of the intended special soy sauce for kamatama, the noodles still delivered a perfect chewy, slippery texture with incredible flavor. Now I truly understand why locals in Kagawa are proud of their udon. Next time, I’ll definitely do it the right way!
