I visited Suzukiya, a popular Iekei ramen restaurant located along Route 16 in Kamihoshikawa, Hodogaya Ward, Yokohama City.
This restaurant has been a beloved spot for locals and ramen enthusiasts for many years. Its appeal lies in its rich yet light pork-bone soy sauce soup and carefully crafted, simple ramen.
While Iekei ramen is often associated with a thick, intense flavor, Suzukiya’s soup stands out for its smooth and drinkable taste, making it easy to enjoy to the very last drop. The basic toppings—nori seaweed, spinach, and a slice of tender char siu pork—create a perfect balance, winning the hearts of many fans.
Additionally, the availability of a dedicated parking space for motorcycles is a big plus for riders, making Suzukiya an ideal stop during a touring trip.
Suzukiya Visit Report
How to Access Suzukiya
Suzukiya is located along Route 16 (heading toward Sagamihara) from Kamihoshikawa Station on the Sotetsu Line. Look for a flower shop; Suzukiya is right next to it.
Suzukiya provides a dedicated parking space for motorcycles. There are two parking areas: one before the flower shop and another past Suzukiya. The motorcycle parking is located in the first parking area, so be careful not to pass it.
The parking spaces for Suzukiya are within a monthly rental parking lot.
The motorcycle parking space is about the size of one car space, so it may get crowded depending on the time of day or season.
From Arrival to Entry
I arrived 10 minutes before the opening time of 11:00 on a Saturday, but there was already a line of about 20 people. As a popular restaurant, it’s best to arrive early. Although the opening time was scheduled for 11:00, the doors opened slightly later at 11:05.
Inside the Restaurant
Suzukiya’s interior consists of only counter seating with 13 seats in total. The atmosphere is simple and calming. Before entering, the staff asks for your ramen preferences, including size (small, medium, or large), noodle firmness, flavor intensity, amount of oil, and whether you’d like rice.
The restaurant uses a ticket vending machine system. I selected the medium-sized ramen with firm noodles (¥1,000) and a side of rice (¥130). Once a seat becomes available, the staff guides you, so you can wait without worry.
Tasting the Ramen!
The ramen I ordered was served around 11:40. It was well worth the wait!
- Soup: The tonkotsu shoyu (pork bone and soy sauce) soup, characteristic of Iekei ramen, was light yet flavorful. It had no overwhelming taste, making it easy to drink.
- Noodles: The chewy medium-thick noodles paired perfectly with the soup.
- Toppings: The ramen toppings were simple but satisfying, featuring seaweed, spinach, and a slice of chashu (braised pork). The chashu was incredibly tender, practically melting in my mouth—a true highlight.
- Rice: Rice is a must-have with Iekei ramen. Mixing it with the soup took the flavor to another level.
Many customers finish the soup entirely, and it’s easy to see why—it’s that good until the last sip. However, I opted to hold back for the sake of my health lol.
